The free screensaver, Shooting Stars, was created by RateMyScreensaver.com and contains 20 high resolution images of Comets. A comet is a small body in the solar system that orbits the Sun and (at least occasionally) exhibits a coma (or atmosphere) and/or a tail - both primarily from the effects of solar radiation upon the comet's nucleus, which itself is a minor body composed of rock, dust, and ice. Comets' orbits are constantly changing: their origins are in the outer solar system, and they have a propensity to be highly affected (or perturbed) by relatively close approaches to the major planets. Some are moved into sun grazing orbits that destroy the comets when they near the Sun, while others are thrown out of the solar system forever. - wiki

Shooting Stars Screensaver is a great slideshow of images of comets. You will not only find amazing images of comets seen in the space and from the Earth, but also interesting infographics with useful information. The slideshow includes 20 images of good quality and of different sizes. All of them are shown with a different transition effect and they are shuffled, so it is possible that some images get shown multiple times, while others only a few. Unfortunately, the screensaver doesn't include sounds or music, and neither can you add your own, which is really a shame.
Sadly, the screensaver doesn't offer any customization options whatsover. From the Settings menu, you will only see a sliding text with the screensaver's credits, terms and conditions, and description. There's also a useless checkbox to mute sounds and a link to the developer's website, from where you can download hundreds of screensavers on different topics for free.
All in all, if you are interested in comets, I'm sure you will enjoy Shooting Stars Screensaver notwithstanding the lack of customization. |
